Mohona TV journalist Mushfiqur Rahman was rescued from Sunamganj Sadar upazila early Tuesday, three days after he went missing.
Kulendra Shekhar Das, the Sunamganj correspondent of Mohona TV, said a mosque Imam in Gobindapur area informed locals when he found Mushfiqur, a senior staff reporter, lying in front of the mosque around 4am.
Local people identified the journalist through his ID card kept in his pocket and then informed police.
Sadar police SI Zinnatul said, “Being informed, a police team went to the scene and rescued him. Mushfiqur was unconscious at that time of rescue.”
Before getting unconscious, Mushfiqur told the local people that he was very tired and he was given water, said the SI. “Some marks of beating were found on Mushfiqur’s body. He was admitted to Sadar Hospital,” he added.
Mohona TV joint news editor Sahidul Alam Imran said, Mushfiqur went to Gulshan around 7:30pm on Saturday to meet his uncle. Since then, he was missing.
His uncle Ezabul Haque filed a general diary (GD) with Gulshan Police Station at night in this regard.
Mushfiqur said, “Me and my uncle took foods at a hotel in city’s Gulshan area on Saturday evening. Later, I boarded in a Mirpur-bound bus for returning home. But, bus passengers sprayed something on my face that made me unconscious.”
“After regaining consciousness, I understood that I was kidnapped. The kidnappers beat me up threatened to shoot me.”
