Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on  Saturday  asked the party leaders and activists to work selflessly for the welfare of the people following the ideology of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“You’ll have to work selflessly for the welfare of the countrymen following the ideology of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and staying above all personal aspirations and gains,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League (AL) president, gave the directive while addressing the party nomination-seekers in different elections including Chattogram City Corporation at her official residence Ganabhaban tonight after a joint meeting of the AL Parliamentary Board and the Local Government Election Nomination Board.

The premier said that the development of the country is now visible as the AL is in the power for more than one decade. “This is a great achievement for a government as the people of the country have kept its trust and confidence in it for such a long time,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina also asked the party leaders and activists to work sincerely to uphold the confidence and trust of the people.

“There is nothing bigger than the people’s trust and confidence for a political leader,” she said.

The prime minister advised the party leaders and activists to project the success stories of the government before the people.

“If you can highlight the successes of AL government before the people it would not be difficult to get votes in any election,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said that no government in the past did such development of the country what the AL government did in the last 11 years.

“In the democratic process everybody has a right to cast his/her vote in favour of any party. The government has created such a scope for all and it never considers who cast vote for AL or who did not,” she said.

The premier mentioned that the government has ensured development programmes across the country both in urban and rural areas equally.

In this connection, she said that the government is developing the country in a planned way so that farmers, students and working class people of county get the results of the development.

“As a result, the country has already graduated to a developing country,” she said.

She also put emphasis on keeping up the pace of the development to advance the country.

Talking about the militancy, terrorism and drugs, Sheikh Hasina said that the ongoing drive against these social menaces will continue.

She urged the people of the country to cast their votes in favour of AL candidates in the coming Chattogram City Corporation election and some Jatiya Sangsad by-polls.

“Only casting votes for boat, the AL’s election symbol, will ensure the development of the people,” she said.

The premier requested all to extend their cooperations to establish a hunger-and-poverty-free prosperous and developed Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation. (BSS)
