First elected mayor of Sylhet City Corporation and member of the central executive committee of Awami League Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran has died from COVID-19 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at around 3:00 am on Monday. He was 69.
Confirming the news his son Dr Arman Ahmed Shiplu said, “My father is no more. He died around 3 in the morning,”
A member of the ruling party’s Central Working Committee, Kamran was airlifted to the CMH by an Air Force helicopter on June 7 for advanced care. He was given plasma therapy there.
The former city father was diagnosed with the deadly respiratory disease on June 5. His wife Asma Kamran had tested coronavirus positive on May 27.
