Veteran journalist and famous cultural figure of the country Kamal Lohani has died from Covid-19 (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun). He died at Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali at 10am on Saturday 20 June.
Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital director Faruq Ahmed confirmed the information to reporters, adding that Kamal Lohani was taken to the ICU on Friday afternoon. Over time, his physical condition continued to deteriorate. He died at 10am on Saturday.
Earlier on May 18, Kamal Lohani was admitted to the Health and Hope Hospital in the capital’s Panthapath with lung and kidney complications. In addition to lung and kidney complications, the 86-year-old cultural figure was also suffering from heart disease and diabetes.
Kamal Lohani started his career as a journalist with the daily Millat. Then, he has worked in important positions in Daily Azad, Sangbad, Purbodesh, and Dainik Barta. He has also served as the President of Dhaka Journalists Union. This eminent personality has served as the Director-General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for two terms.
