The facility of paying electricity bills without late fees of three months was given due to the coronavirus outbreak situation in the country. The three-month bill is expected to be paid by June. However, many customers are harassed with the spooky (extra) electricity bill. In the meantime, the power distribution companies have been given 10 days to rectify these faulty bills. The customers will get at least 10 more days to pay the bill.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this on Tuesday.
The government has also announced six steps to rectify the situation in the wake of various complaints about faulty electricity bills, he said.
These include – put together the few months’ units and not billing more units at once, creating separate electricity bills for the owing months (ideas can be taken from previous month’s bills if necessary) etc.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid gave details of the move in response to a question in Jatiya Sangsad on Monday about arrears and faulty electricity bills.
