Accusations have been raised against the Labaid Diagnostic Narayanganj branch, of charging arbitrary fees by using government booths to collect coronavirus samples. District Civil Surgeon Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed has stopped the sample collection of this hospital after finding the veracity of these allegations.
It is learned, the district civil surgeon has issued a written order to stop the sample collection of the hospital at 8 pm on Tuesday. Earlier in the morning, the health division has conducted a raid at the Labaid branch located in the old court area of Kalirbazar in Narayanganj and found the veracity of the allegations lodged by the customers.
Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed said, “A letter has been sent to Labaid Narayanganj branch to stop sample collection. According to Labaid, they do not know the matter of collecting samples from outside. Further investigation is underway. If they disobey government orders, legal action will be taken against them.”
According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, samples were collected at the government booth on the ground floor of the newly constructed CGM building at Kalirbazar in Narayanganj city. The government fee for collecting and testing samples at this booth is Tk. 200.
Johnny, Technician of Labaid Narayanganj Branch Narayanganj oversees the booth under Civil Surgeon’s Office. Although he was not on duty on Tuesday morning, he came to the booth and asked if any patient had come from Labaid. At this time, the person who came for the test from Labaid submitted the receipt and arranged to collect his sample.
When the information reached the district civil surgeon’s office, the civil surgeon Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed and Corona Focal Person Dr. Jahidul Islam went to the booth and found the truth of the allegation.
These officers of the district health division then conducted an operation in that branch of Labaid. It is learned that samples of patients have been collected from Labaid at the government booth in Kalirbazar before. Meanwhile, Labaid has fired two technicians, Johnny and Ripon, involved in the scam.
Narayanganj Labaid branch manager Sohel said, “These two people caused this incident to us invisibly. We have taken action against them.”
The victim, Zahidul Islam, said that he had come from Chittagong Road in Siddhirganj to give samples for Tk 4,000 as he had symptoms of coronavirus infection. Labaid has asked him to come there and give samples. The company said it was also their sample collection booth.
“We couldn’t go to the patient’s house because of the rain. So, I asked him to come to the booth,” said Johnny, the accused technician at Labaid. Johnny could not give a satisfactory answer when asked if there was any permission to collect samples from private organizations at government booths.
