Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the ‘Khurushkul Special Shelter Project’ in Cox’s Bazar. She will inaugurate the project by handing over flats to 600 families on Thursday.
Prime Minister’s assistant press secretary MM Imrul Kayes said that 4,409 families, who were climate refugees, would be rehabilitated under the Khurushkul Special Shelter Project. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will initially hand over modern flats to 600 families from her official residence Ganabhaban via video conference on Thursday.
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to set a unique precedent in the world in rehabilitating climate refugees by constructing 139 five-storey buildings on 253.59 acres of land at a cost of Tk 1,800.39 crore under the ‘Khurushkul Special Shelter Project’.
The ‘special shelter project’ has been set up on the banks of Bankkhali river at Khurushkul, three kilometres away from Cox’s Bazar city. 139 five-storey buildings are being constructed by dividing the entire area into four zones.
