There was no connection of militancy with the explosion that took place inside Pallabi Police Station in the capital early Wednesday, said a senior official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
DMP Additional Commissioner Krishnapada Roy made the remarks after visiting the police station building. He said there were two sounds within half an hour and a DMP bomb disposal unit defused two more live explosives.
The DMP official said police arrested three suspects on information that they were taking preparation to commit crime at Pallabi. Two firearms, bullets and a weight machine-like object were recovered at that time, he said.
Krishnapada said a bomb disposal unit rushed in to check the weight machine-like object. “An explosion took place inside the police station when other members of the bomb disposal unit were coming with observation machine to examine the object.”
Later, they defused two more live explosives, he said, adding that they were investigating why the arrestees brought those and why.
Five people, including four policemen, were injured in the explosion inside the police station. The injured police members are Inspector (Investigation) Imran, SI Sajib, PSI Aunkush and PSI Rumi while other is Reaz. Of them, Rumi and Reaz were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Aunkush was taken to an eye hospital and Imran and Sajib received first aid.
