Twenty-one members of Bangladesh Navy have been injured in a massive explosion occurred in a warehouse at Beirut Port in Lebanon.
Condition of one is stated critical and he was admitted to American University of Beirut Medical Centre for treatment, said the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) in a statement on Wednesday.
Other injured have been admitted to Hamoud Hospital after giving them first aid under the supervision of United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL). They are now out of danger.
The crew members of ‘BNS Bijoy’ of Bangladesh Navy were on duty under the Maritime Task Force deployed as part of United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Beirut.
The authorities are now assessing losses of the BNS Bijoy. The Bangladesh Navy Headquarter is keeping constant communication with BNS, UNIFIL Headquarter and Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut.
UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander and Taskforce Commander are closely observing the situation and ensured of extending all-out assistance and support. Bangladesh Ambassador in Lebanon Major Gen Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman visited BNS Bijoy after the incident.
