Lebanon health minister, Hamad Hasan has confirmed that the death toll has risen to 135, reports BBC.
“Unfortunately, the death toll is rising. The death toll rose to 135 on Wednesday. More than 5,000 people were injured in the accident and many are still missing. The injured are receiving medical treatment inside and outside the capital,” he said.
President Michel Aoun said 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely in the port’s warehouse, which was the reason behind the blast. These ammonium nitrate are used as fertilizer and explosives in agriculture.
Customs chief Badri Daher said his agency directed to remove the chemical, but this did not happen.
