Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research director Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora has been promoted to additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services.
Health ministry in a notice on Thursday said that Meerjady’s appointment of ADG (planning and development, current charge) of DGHS would be effective from August 20, 2020.
Meerjady was the focal person of COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh when the coronavirus emerged in the country.
Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora appointed as the director of IEDCR in 2016. After being appointed as the director, she carried out various security measures and research to prevent the outbreak of epidemic viruses and diseases in various important places in Bangladesh.
Under her supervision, security measures were taken at Dhaka’s Shahjalal Airport to prevent the global outbreak of Zika virus, coronavirus related to the respiratory syndrome in the Middle East and coronavirus in 2019-20. Meerjady Sabrina Flora’s team also worked to prevent Chikungunya in Bangladesh in 2017.
