Major General (Retd.) Chitta Ranjan Dutt (CR Dutt) Bir Uttam, Commander of Sector 4 during the War of Liberation and Founder President of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Parishad, has died aged 93.
He died at a Florida hospital in the United States at around 9.30am Bangladesh time on Tuesday (August 25). Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Parishad, confirmed the demise incident.
CR Dutt was born on 1 January 1926 in Shillong, Assam. His ancestral home is in Mirashi village of Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj.
General Dutt suddenly fell in the bathroom of his residence on Thursday, August 20. It broke his leg. After that, he was rushed to the hospital where his condition deteriorated rapidly.
CR Dutt was the first Director General of Bangladesh Rifles (now BGB). During the war of liberation he was in charge of Sector 4. He was awarded the title of Bir Uttam for his special contribution in the war of liberation.
