‘Begum Rokeya Padak-2020’ has been handed over to five prominent women for their role in women empowerment and their outstanding contributions to society.
The award was given by the Ministry of Social Welfare at 10:30 am on Wednesday at the Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was virtually present on the occasion from Ganabhaban.
State Minister for Women and Children affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira handed over the awards on behalf of the Prime Minister marking ‘Begum Rokeya Day-2020’.
The awardees are – Professor Dr. Shirin Akhter for women’s education, Colonel (Dr.) Nazma Begum for women’s empowerment through professional development, Manjulika Chakma for women’s socio-economic development, Begum Mushtari Shafi (Bir Freedom Fighter) for women’s awakening through literature and culture and Farida Akhter for her contribution to women’s rights.
The prominent awardees received honorary medals, certificates and checks from Fazilatun Nessa Indira on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Prime Minister addressed the function as the chief guest. She regretted not being able to hand over the prize herself. This award is given every year on Begum Rokeya Day. The program was broadcasted live on Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, other televisions and social media.
