11 people were killed and five others injured as a train crashed into a bus at a level crossing in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district on Saturday at around 6:45 am. The deceased could not be identified yet.
According to Witnesses, the Rajshahi-bound ‘Uttara Express’ from Dhaka hit the Hili-bound bus at Puranpoil level crossing around 6:45 am. The bus got twisted after the accident, leaving 11 of its passengers dead, said Sirajul Islam, an officer of Joypurhat Fire Service.
On information, police, firefighters and members of Border Guard Bangladesh rushed in and carried out the rescue operation. The injured were taken to hospital.
The accident snapped the rail communications of the northern districts with the capital and other parts of the country.
