Calling on international organizations to adopt effective strategies to put pressure on Myanmar to repatriate Rohingya citizens, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the Sheikh Hasina government has been seeking the cooperation of the international community to find a peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis. Besides, diplomatic activities have also continued.
Obaidul Quader also said that their livelihood was putting tremendous pressure on Bangladesh’s economy as about 1.2 million Rohingya people had taken refuge in Teknaf-Ukhiya. Besides, the balance of the environment has threatened as more people live in fewer places. “The tourism industry, which has developed around the world’s longest beach, is also being negatively affected by the Rohingya population,” he said.
Remarking that the government has taken initiative to collect the COVID vaccine the minister said, “The Ministry of Health is working on this and informing the people,” He informed that the vaccine will reach the country in the last week of January or February.
He said this at a regular briefing at his official residence on Monday morning. Obaidul Quader said a cycle is active in unwarranted criticism of any good initiative of the government. The Awami League General Secretary urged the people not to be confused by the purposeful propaganda.
