UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announced the appointment of popular Bangladeshi actor and musician Tahsan Khan as its first Goodwill Ambassador in Bangladesh.
Recently UNHCR confirmed this information in a press release. UNHCR has 32 goodwill ambassadors around the world, the statement said. Through their popularity, dedication and work, they highlight the plight of refugees around the world and the work of UNHCR.
Tahsan has been supporting UNHCR’s advocacy and outreach activities since 2019. He has visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar and assisted in organizing World Refugee Day and other UNHCR events. Through these works, Tahsan has witnessed humanitarian efforts for refugees in Cox’s Bazar, talked to refugees, and learned better about the root causes of the displacement, the statement said.
Tahsan said, “I feel privileged and honored to be associated with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which ensures protection, provides life-saving assistance, and seeks solutions for millions of refugees and displaced people worldwide. Today, more than one percent of the world’s population (1 in 97 people) is displaced by conflict and oppression. As part of the privileged 99 percent, I feel a moral obligation to offer every support I can extend to uphold their voices,” said Khan.
