RAB-4 has arrested five members of the banned militant group Ansar Al Islam from the Pallabi police station area of the capital. They were arrested on Friday night while attending a secret meeting with other members of the organization.
The arrested are Hasibur Rahman alias Sohail (26), Mosharraf Hossain alias Atiq (19), Ramim Hossain alias Panir Hossain alias Nahidur Rahman (22), Sajib Mia alias Khizir (20) and Chanchal Hossain alias Abdullah (19). Six different types of extremist books, 23 leaflets, 135 screenshots and 6 mobile phone sets were seized from them.
RAB-4 Assistant Superintendent of Police Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury said the detainees had confessed during preliminary interrogation that they were members of a banned militant organization.
Arrested Hasibur Rahman is studying at a private university and as a member of Ansar Al Islam, he and his associates were secretly carrying out various activities to incite others. He was also in regular contact with members of the organization and was promoting extremist ideology online.
Ramim Hossain is a college student and has been involved with Ansar al-Islam for several days, uploading extremist activities to his own electronic group at various times. He was also promoting various extremist writings, videos and leaflets online.
Sajib Mia College student and Mosharraf Hossain used to work in a security company in the capital. For a long time they had been involved in banned militant organizations, secret meetings with others as well as collecting donations and new members.
As a student of Chanchal Hossain College and a member of a militant organization, he and his associates were secretly carrying out various activities to incite others.
RAB official Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury said legal action was being taken against the detainees and RAB intelligence was continuing to monitor the arrest of their other accomplices.
