50 jailed over attack on PM Hasina’s convoy attack

A Satkhira court has sentenced 50 persons to different terms in jail in the case regarding 2002’s attack on the convoy of then-opposition leader and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Kalaroa.

Sheikh Hasina was returning to Magura after visiting a freedom fighter’s wife in Satkhira when her convoy got attacked in Kalaroa on August 30, 2002. Chief Judicial Magistrate Humayun Kabir passed the verdict on Tuesday. Assistant Attorney General Advocate SM Munir confirmed the matter to media.

The imprisoned accused in the case are- former MP Habibul Islam Habib, Ashraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam, Md. Abdur Razzak, Md. Abdul Majid, Md. Hasan Ali, Moyna, Abdus Sattar, Tofazzal Hossain Sentu, Md. Zahurul Islam, Golam Rasul, Sheikh Tamim Azad Marine, Md. Abdur Rakib Mollah, Md. Akhtarul Islam, Advocate Md. Abdus Sattar, Abdus Samad, Md. Altaf Hossain, Shahabuddin, Md. Saheb Ali, Sirajul Islam, Rakib, Trolley Shahidul, Md. Monirul Islam, Sheikh Kamrul Islam, Yasin Ali, Shelley, Shahinur Rahman, Didar Moral, Sohag Hossain, Mahafuzur Mola, Abdul Ghaffar Gazi, Rinku, Advocate Md. Abdus Samad, Tiger Khokon alias Badhe Khokon.

The hearings in the case began on January 27. On the other hand, Kalaroa’s commander of freedom fighters Moslem Uddin filed a case. And the case got reopened on 15th October 2014.
