Public transport will run from August 11 and will carry passengers in each seat in the vehicle. The public transport will run on the previous fare of pre-COVID situation, said Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
He said this while signing an agreement at the Tejgaon Road Transport Conference Room in the capital on Monday.
He called upon the stakeholders, bus owners and workers to cooperate in these matters considering the overall situation and for the public interest.
Obaidul Quader said even if the government relaxes the lockdown for the benefit of people’s lives and livelihood, “another strict lockdown” may be given again considering the situation.
The government is relaxing the ongoing strict restrictions considering the socio-economic condition of the country, keeping the economic activities active and the overall situation, he also said.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister said the country’s roads and highways are being developed so much, as a result, more than one project is being taken. “Yet discipline” is not returning to the highway. The discipline on roads and highways must be restored at all costs.
He said the vehicle should be disinfected before plying. Passengers must ensure 100% mask wear. Strict action will be taken against them if any transport “takes extra fare”. He urged the BRTA to take necessary steps in this regard.
Roads and Highways Division (RHD) Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, RHD Chief Engineer, Project director Abdullah Al Mamun, and others were present on the occasion.
