Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said that another 7 crore doses of COVAX vaccine will come in the country by November this year.
The health minister disclosed the information while addressing a discussion organised at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on the occasion of the National Mourning Day and 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Countrywide vaccination programme is being strengthened at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Use facemask and maintain social distance to avoid Covid-19 infections,” Maleque said.
He said, “COVAX has become a major source of Covid-19 vaccine for Bangladesh. Bangladesh has already received around 89 lakh doses of COVAX vaccine. Another 10 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine gifted by the Chinese government have arrived in Dhaka as the last consignment.”
On May 12, China gifted Bangladesh five lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine in the first consignment and six lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine on June 13 in the second consignment and another ten lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine on August 13 in the third consignment.
With the last consignment, Bangladesh has so far received a total of 21 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine as the gift of the Chinese government.
