Lightning strikes kill 7 in Dinajpur

At least seven people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Dinajpur on Monday (August 23).

The incidents took place at sadar upazila and Chirirbandar upazila at the noon and afternoon.

In sadar upazila, four teenagers were killed and three others injured while playing games on mobile in a tinshed shelter at railghunti area. They rushed to the tinshed sensing lightning strikes might be happened.

The deceased were known as Apon, 16, son of Sadikul, Sajjad, 13, son of Aminul Isalm, Hassan, 12, son of late Siddique, and Mim, 12, son of Raju Mondal. They all died on the spot.

Three others were also injured in the incident. They were known as Atik, 16, son of Bablu, Mominul, 17, son of Idris and Saju, 16, son of Abdul Gafur.

Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed the matter.

In Chirirbandar, three people were killed in a lightning strike at Guriapara of Dakshin Shukdebpur village of the upazila.

They were identified as Nur Islam, 24, son of Moksed, Abdur Razzak, 23, son of Samu and Abbas Ali, 22, son of Altaf Hossain.

Local Abdulpur union parishad chairman Moyen Uddin Shah confirmed the matter.
