State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain has said, “We have all preparations to reopen schools. The situation is currently being monitored. We can reopen the government primary schools across the country on next day if Prime Minister issues directives in this regard.”
In reply to a query, the State Minister told this to the reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday (August 24) noon.
He said, “We have taken preparations to reopen the government primary schools. The schools have been cleaned. Our teachers are going to school. We are running educational activities online and offline. Classes are being held on Parliament TV. Even though the school is closed, our students are being given lessons. They are being given worksheets.”
Asked when schools would be reopened, the State Minister said, “It needs high-level instructions from the government to reopen schools. Schools cannot be reopened in a hurry in the situation currently prevails. The Prime Minister, the cabinet, the health experts will all decide together.”
He said, “Experts are giving opinion to open schools. Our children have not been able to go to school for a long year and a half. They are getting involved themselves in various activities. Students are getting involved in various bad games. The kids in my area are addicted to online sports all day. Child marriage has increased in remote char areas as schools remain closed.”
