The Ministry of Emergency Affairs said that on Sunday, a small Russian passenger plane carrying 14 passengers and two crew members made an emergency landing in a forest in southeastern Siberia, killing four people.
The law enforcement agency of the investigation committee stated that the L-410 plane that took off from the city of Irkutsk descended 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) from its destination Kazachinkoye village.
According to Interfax news agency, a preliminary report from the local emergency service said that the crew reported equipment failure before the hard landing.
Initial media reports stated that 11 people were trapped in the plane after the plane crashed. A video circulated on social media, allegedly of the landing site, showed rescuers using a stretcher to light a torch by the river at night.
