As students return to the classroom for the first time in nearly a year and a half, Education Minister Dipu Moni warned that severe action will be taken against school authorities because they have not ensured hygiene rules. Schools and colleges across the country reopened on Sunday after being closed for 542 days due to the pandemic and coronavirus restrictions. During her visit to the Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College in Dhaka, Minister Dipu Moni suspended the duties of the principal and the teachers of the monitoring team due to uncleanness.
In an interview with the media, she stated that the ministry will conduct “unannounced visits” to educational institutions and will take severe measures if it does not comply with health regulations. “Today’s visit to this school is scheduled. But we will conduct regular surprise visits” she said. In terms of ensuring health and hygiene rules, neither teachers nor education department officials will be spared, she added.
She asked parents and guardians to raise awareness of social supervision and provide assistance without interfering with academic activities or gathering in front of the institutions.
