The body of a young girl has been recovered after almost 13 hours she went missing in sinking a boat in Gulshan Lake in Dhaka city.
The dead was 19-year-old named Selina Akhtar.
Police said the passenger boat sank in Gulshan Lake on Thursday morning. Selina was one of the passengers on the boat.
Fire service divers were unable to search Selina from morning to evening. The woman’s body was seen floating around 10 pm.
Selina worked at a diagnostic center in Banani. In the morning she was going to her workplace.
According to fire service sources, a boat with 14 passengers was heading towards the eastern ghat of Karail slum at around 8:30 am between Gulshan 1 and 2. When the boat reached the middle of the lake, it suddenly sank with the passengers. Selina Akhter went missing while 13 passengers were able to swim ashore. After receiving the news, a team of fire service divers went to the spot.
Dewan Azad, a duty officer deployed in the control room of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, said the fire service divers went to the spot after receiving the news of the sinking of the boat. They searched the lake from morning to evening, but did not find the missing girl.
Banani police said Selina’s body was found floating in the lake around 10pm on Thursday. Later her relatives went there and took the body. Selina’s father Mohammad Babul is a resident of Karail slum.
