Information and Broadcasting Minister. Hasan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has indeed ensured the right of the people of Bangladesh to access information. When we formed the government under her leadership in 2009, the Information Commission Act was passed in the Parliament. The Information Commission has been formed because of that law. The Prime Minister has ensured the right of the people of the country to get information by forming an information commission.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Information Commission at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday afternoon, September 28, on the occasion of International Right to Information Day 2021. At the end of the meeting, the ministry, departments, districts, upazilas, officers in charge and the committee played a special role in the implementation of the right to information in 2020 – the secretary of the land ministry in these six stages. A total of 13 people including Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Mahfuza Akhtar were honored.
One lakh and twenty one thousand applications have been disposed of in Bangladesh till December 2020. Hasan Mahmud commented that there is no need to go to any ministry and take pictures of the file or smuggle paper from the file. If it is not information that is a confidential document of the state, then the ministry or the concerned government department and private department is obliged to provide it. And if you do not give any reason, then there is an opportunity to take refuge in the Information Commission.
The Information Minister further said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has spoken of ensuring the right to information of the people under Article 39 of the 1972 Constitution. In that light, the Right to Information Act was enacted and the Information Commission was formed. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has not only created Bangladesh, he has given us a constitution in which the people have been given ownership of the state. Many changes have been made in the aftermath of that constitution of 1972. The main character of that constitution has been destroyed by omitting and changing. Although the main character we brought back a lot. That constitution has given importance to every aspect of the state. That is why it is really unique and very few states have such a thing in their constitutions.
