This year’s Nobel Peace Prize won by Philippine journalist Maria Ressa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov.
The Nobel Committee announced the winner from Oslo, the capital of Norway, on Friday at 3 pm Bangladesh time.
They have been given this award for their efforts to protect freedom of expression, which is considered significant for democracy and lasting peace.
The Nobel Prize has been awarded to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the establishment of world peace since 1901. At times, the award was discontinued during the years of World War II. A total of 101 Nobel Peace Prizes have been announced by 2020. And 135 winners have won this award, including 107 individuals and 28 organizations.
The Red Cross (1917, 1944 and 1963) has won the Nobel Peace Prize three times. In addition, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has received it twice (in 1954 and 1981).
