Bangladesh wins first world cup qualifier game against Pakistan women’s team

Bangladesh girls got off to a good start following their 3 wickets victory over Pakistan in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier at Harare today. In reply to Pakistan’s 201 Bangladesh won the match in 49.4 overs in reply to Pakistan’s 201/7 Bangladesh Women’s team chased down the target losing seven wickets with 2 balls to spare.

Despite playing in four T20 world cups, Bangladesh girls have never played an ODI world cup. To this end, the girls in red-green started their campaign with victory over Pakistan.

After winning the toss Bangladesh Women elected to field first and restrict Pakistan Women’s team to 201/7 in 50 overs. 

In reply, Bangladesh Women’s team lose opener Murshida Khatun (9) when Bangladesh’s score was only 10. From here, Sharmin Akhter (31 off 67) and Fargana Hoque (45 off 90) added 70 runs for the third wickets stand before the former was dismissed by Nida Dar. 

Soon after Bangladesh were reduced to 98/4. But Rumana Ahmed and Ritu Moni rebuild for the Tigresses adding 61 runs for the fifth wickets stand. Till then, Bangladesh were well ahead but they lose some quick wickets at the end which seemed that they are losing the match. But Rumana Ahmed’s unbeaten 50 off 44 and Salma Khatun’s quickfire 18 off 13 sealed victory for Bangladesh.

For Pakistan, Nashra Sandhu and Omaima Sohail bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, Pakistan Pakistan post 201/7. They lost first five wickets to 49. From here, Nida Dar (87) and Aliya Riaz (61 off 82 not out) helped Pakistan to cross 200-mark.

For, Bangladesh Ritu Moni and Nahida Akter took 2 wickets each. Salma Khatun and Rumana Ahmed took one wicket apiece.
