The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today has sentenced former Bogura-3 BNP MP Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka to death for crimes against humanity during the Great Liberation War.

A three-member judicial panel led by tribunal’s chairman Justice Md. Shahinur Islam handed over the verdict on Wednesday

Earlier on Monday, the judicial panel set a date for the verdict. After the hearing on October 31, the case was kept waiting for the verdict.

Prosecutors Sultan Mahmud Simon and Rezia Sultana Chaman were in favor of the prosecution in the tribunal. “The accused is absconding,” Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman said on Monday.

Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka was charged with three counts of crimes against humanity. Among them, he was charged with murder and genocide of 19 people and looted and torched 19 houses.

After the Independence, Abdul Momin Talukder joined the BNP in 1978. Later, he became the president of Bogura’s Adamdighi Upazila BNP.

Momin Talukder was elected MP twice from BNP in 2001 and 2008. He is currently the vice-president of Bogura district BNP and the party’s co-organizing secretary for the Rajshahi division.
