Dr. Murad Hassan left the country for Canada in the early hours of Friday, two days after he resigned as the state minister for information and broadcasting amid severe backlash for his misogynistic remarks.
A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying Murad and 399 passengers left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 am.
Asking not to be named, a senior immigration officer confirmed the information, saying that the flight was supposed to take off at 11:20 pm, but it was delayed due to complexities related to the immigration process.
According to sources, Murad’s destination is Canada’s Toronto.
Earlier, Murad entered the VIP terminal of the airport around 9:00 pm on Thursday. His family members were not with him at that time.
The Awami League MP from Jamalpur-4 came under massive criticism after a phone conversation between him and film actor Mamnun Hasan Emon and actress Mahiya Mahi went viral on social media. In that audio clip, Murad was heard passing abusing comments and pressing Mahi to come to a city hotel where he was staying.
Later on Tuesday, he resigned as the state minister for information and broadcasting upon the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Wednesday, Murad was relieved from the post of executive member of Jamalpur’s Sarishabari Upazila unit Awami League.
