A case has been filed against 25 people including the owner of MV Abhiyan-10 launch Hamzalal Sheikh in connection with the terrible fire at the launch.
Advocate Nazmul Islam Nasir, chairman of Barguna M Baliatli Union, filed the case in the Barguna Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court around 9am on Sunday.
Later, the court judge Muhammad Mahbub Alam accepted the application and ordered to take the case as a statement to the concerned police station around 10:30 am. Akhter Hossain, administrative officer of the court, confirmed the information.
The lawyer of the case Saifur Rahman Sohag said that the negligence of the staff including the owner was obvious in the fire incident. The plaintiff was aggrieved by the incident and filed a case. The court accepted the application and directed the concerned police station to take the case as evidence.
Plaintiff Nazmul Islam Nasir said, I have come to know through various media and social media that fire, death, injury and damage have occurred due to the negligence. In this case, the owners and those concerned should be brought to justice. That is why I have filed the case in the interest of justice. He demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Incidentally, a fire broke out on a Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 launch at Deuri area of Ponabalia Union in Jhalokathi around 3am on Friday. The launch was going to Barguna with about 8600 passengers onboard. So far 42 bodies have been recovered in this incident. Over hundreds people received burn injuries in this incident. Still, 25 people are missing.
